Solar PV Panel Installation
The installation of Solar PV or Solar Thermal panels onto existing roof tiles comprises installing an aluminium framework to which the panels are fixed. A Quick outline of a typical roof installation . Fixing the framework A number of bracket designs are available for fixing the frame. For a non invasive solution ( no drilling of the roof tile) the most common bracket for use with UK concrete tiles is a roof hook.
To fix these you need to slide the roof tile up out of the way, and then secure them to the rafter with stainless stell screws. The spacing is typically every 1.2metres. Once fitted the tile will need some material removed from its underneath to allow it to sit flush. The frame work can then be installed .
Special clamps are used to fix the PV panels onto the frame, and together. They come on different sizes for the various panels available When the tiles are not removable, or it will be difficult for them to sit flush once the bracket is fitted, then a number of options are available. The most common is to use a special roof bolt .
The important requirement when using this technique is a) finding the centre of the rafter b) ensuring that the seal around the bolt penetration through the roof tile is watertight. |
